About the product

The large nailess sawtooth frame hanger is designed with built-in prongs that allow easy attachment onto wood without screws or nails. Its hardened finish lets the sawtooth hanger be hammered in without deforming, while its unique pronged design provides a quick and easy installation in just seconds.

  • Self-attaching no-nail sawtooth hangers for wood frames

  • Measures 1/4" wide and 1 3/4" long

  • Supports lightweight art up to 10 lbs

  • No additional hardware required

  • Tempered steel with corrosion-resistant zinc plating and silver finish

Instructions

  1. Lay the frame face down on a blanket or soft surface.

  2. Position the nailess sawtooth so that it’s centered left-to-right on the top rail, a little down from the upper edge of the frame. The serrated edge should face down.

  3. If installing on extremely hard wood, drill small pilot holes for the nailess sawtooth hanger’s legs.

  4. Use a small hammer to tap the nailess sawtooth hanger in place, taking care not to break the glass on the frame, if any. About 1/4“ of each prong should go into the wood for maximum support. When properly seated, the shoulders of a nailess sawtooth hanger should rest on the surface of the frame rail, leaving approximately a 1/8" gap between the back of the hanger and the surface of the rail.

  5. Hang the picture on the wall, ensuring the nail in the wall is tight and secure before using it to hang the frame. TIP: Always use a headed nail, not a brad, and position the frame on the nail so that the nail is caught firmly on the sawtooth hanger.

Do’s and Don’ts When Using Sawtooth Hangers

Frequently Asked Questions

Q How do I choose the right wood frame hanger?

Start with how you want to hang: with wire or without. D-ring hangers and strap hangers pair with picture hanging wire for adjustable positioning. Sawtooth hangers and Wall Buddies offer wire-free hanging where the frame hooks directly onto a wall screw or nail. Consider your frame weight to pick the right capacity. For a full walkthrough, see our guide: Everything You Need to Know About Wood Frame Hangers.

Q How do I install wood frame hangers and what tools do I need?

Most wood frame hangers install with a screwdriver and the included screws. D-rings and strap hangers screw into the back of the frame. Nailess sawtooth hangers have prongs that press directly into wood—no screws needed. Installation instructions are included with each product.

Q How much weight can wood frame hangers safely hold?

Weight capacity varies by hanger type and size. This collection includes options from lightweight hangers for small frames to heavy-duty strap hangers for large pieces. Check each product listing for the specific weight rating.

Q Can I use these hangers with wire?

D-ring hangers and strap hangers are designed to work with picture hanging wire—install two on opposite sides of the frame and string wire between them. Sawtooth hangers hang directly on a wall screw or nail without wire. Choose the hanging method that best suits your project.

Q Will these hangers work with metal frames?

This collection is designed specifically for wooden frames. For metal frames, see our metal frame hangers collection, which includes snap-in, slide-in, and clip-on designs for industry-standard metal frame channels.
