Narrow Picture Rail Hook Zinc/Silver

S-HWR-1226X

Size: 10 Pack ($0.78 Each)

About the Narrow Picture Rail Hook in Zinc/Silver

  • A zinc-plated/ silver finish narrow rail hook for Ogee molding, a.k.a. picture rail systems. Supports up to 25 lbs.
  • Picture rail hooks are used with Ogee molding or picture rail molding, and nylon or steel cable and picture hooks.
  • Pack includes 10 Silver Narrow Rail Hooks. Each  hook hanger measures 1 3/4" long, 3/16" wide, and 1/8 inch thick.
  • The design is made to sit perfectly onto the curves of an Ogee molding and holds the whole system together to create a museum-like photo or art display.
  • With a picture rail system, drilling holes in the wall is not necessary.

Instructions

  1. Two picture rail hooks per frame should be used.
  2. A second person to assist with hanging is  helpful.
  3. Check the fit of your picture rail hooks. You can bend the hooks slightly if necessary to make them fit better.
  4. Strap Hangers or D-Ring Hangers should be installed at the upper corners of frames to be hung, aligned vertically just below the top edge. If the frame is hung from above, the hangers should be placed just far enough away from the top edge to be invisible.
  5. Using picture wire, extend the length of the picture wire from the bottom (smaller) bends of the two picture rail hooks, to the top of the frame on the wall. Wrap the wire tightly around itself to form a tight, compact coil about 1 to 1 1/2" long just below the bend of the picture rail hook; and then clip off any excess wire.
  6. Position the top (larger) bend of the picture rail hooks on the picture rail molding, approximately equal to the width of the frame to be hung. Allow the wire ends to dangle.
  7. Attach the wire from the picture rail hook to the picture hanger on the right side of the frame and raise it to about the height you want. Hold the left side of the frame with your left hand or, better yet, have someone assist you.
  8. Temporarily loop the picture wire around itself at the picture hanger to hold the right-hand side of the frame in position.
  9. Repeat Steps 7 and 8 on the left-hand side.
  10. Make any necessary adjustments to the position or spacing of the hooks on the picture rail molding. The two wires should be parallel.
  11. If necessary, unloop the wires at the picture hangers and adjust the wire height up or down until the picture is at the correct height. The picture should be level.
  12. Be sure to coil the picture wire tightly around each picture hanger. Clip off any excess wire.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q How do I install your art hanging systems and what tools or hardware do I need?

We offer three types of gallery systems: Wall Track Kits, Picture Rail Gallery Kits, and Brass Gallery Rod Kits. The right one for you depends on whether or not your space has a picture rail molding. Each system utilizes picture rail hooks, frame hooks, and vertical cords or rods. If your wall doesn't already have a picture rail molding, you'll just need a drill or a screwdriver and a few screws (included in the kits!) to install the track. For a detailed walkthrough, check out our complete guide: Everything You Need to Know About Gallery Systems

Q Can I remove these gallery hanging systems without damaging my walls?

For OGEE picture rail hanging systems, there will be no wall damage at all as it will only involve an existing picture rail. For systems that require installing a track or molding, some drilling is needed, which means a few small holes. Using wall anchors will mitigate the damage, and a quick spackle touch-up afterward will cover them right up.

Q How much weight can each art hanging system safely hold?

Each part of a gallery system has different weight ratings: some are made to hold a single frame (picture hooks), support multiple frames (rods and cords), and some carry the weight of the entire setup (wall tracks and moldings). Wall tracks hold up to 154 lbs, steel and nylon cords from 11-28 lbs, and adjustable frame hooks up to 44 lbs. Picture rail hooks can handle up to 25 lbs. The Brass Gallery Rod Kit's molding supports up to 70 lbs and its monkey hangers up to 25 lbs. Tip: Check each product's listing for its specific weight rating to make sure your display hangs safely.

Q What wall types are the included mounting hardware compatible with?

For gallery hanging systems that require wall tracks or installable moldings, compatibility will depend on the screws. The ones included in our kits work with wood, drywall, plaster, and concrete.

Q What kinds of frames or decor work best with art hanging systems?

The best frames for gallery systems are those that match the weight ratings of each component. Each frame should stay within the capacity of its individual hook, the combined frames on a single rod or cable should fit that rod or cable's rating, and the total weight across all rods or cables should stay within the wall track or molding's limit.
