The Adjustable J-Hook is a heavy-duty two-part picture hook that permits height/level adjustments without having to remove the item hung on it from the wall. J-Hooks are installed with two (2) 1 5/8" x 13 nails per hook and/or the optional screws & anchors.

The lower section of the J-Hook moves up or down by adjusting the hex nut on the threaded bolt that connects the two parts. The upper section of the hook is designed so that you can make this height adjustment while the hook is under load on the wall by turning the head of the connecting bolt with a screwdriver inserted through the opening on the top side of the J-Hook.

There is approximately 3/4" adjustment capacity on a J-Hook, so installation of the hooks on the wall need not be perfectly level.

J-Hooks can be used in conjunction with wired picture frames, but they are more commonly employed to hang pictures directly on a pair of D-Ring Hangers or Strap Hangers that have been attached vertically to the back of a picture frame at the top corners. See the instructions below for more details on attaching picture hangers used in combination with J-Hooks.

Instructions

  1. To hang a picture frame using J-Hooks, appropriate picture hangers should first be installed on the back of the frame, aligned vertically at the top corners. Any of our D-Ring Hangers or Strap Hangers will work well for this.
  2. Make sure that the hangers are positioned on the frame an equal distance down from the frame's top edge and also far enough down to allow the frame to hide the J-Hooks when the picture is hung on the wall.
  3. Measure the distance between the center lines of the two hangers on the frame and transfer this measurement to the wall, making sure that your two marks are reasonably level to each other and spaced apart from the same distance as the distance between the hangers on the frame.
  4. Use a small hammer and the four J-Hook nails provided to attach the J-Hooks to the wall at your wall marks and hang the frame on the hooks.
  5. You can fine-adjust the frame to level without taking the frame off the wall by turning the head of a J-Hook connecting bolt with a Phillips screwdriver inserted through the opening on the top side of the hook.
  6. For larger adjustments, remove the frame from the wall and move the hex nut on either J-Hook connecting bolt up or down as required.

Optional Instructions using J-Hook and screws with anchors

  1. Follow Steps #1-3 above.
  2. Drill or punch two 3/16" diameter holes in the wall on your marks. These holes indicate the position of the screw hole in the J-Hook upper sections.
  3. Install two #8 white plastic anchors (not included) by gently hammering them into the holes made in the wall. Anchor tops should be just flush with the wall surface.
  4. Attach the J-Hooks to the wall by inserting the screws (not included) into the anchors. When secure, you can hammer in the two J-Hook nails on each hook for added holding power.
  5. Hang the frame on the J-Hooks.
  6. Adjust as per Steps #5 & 6 above.
