Invisible Nylon Hanging Cord - 100 feet

S-IHC-80

About the product

Like picture wire, hanging cords are a staple in picture hanging, a classic component that has been used for centuries. Made of durable nylon, the clear hanging cord ties and cuts like wire and is easy to apply on hardware. Its invisible, seamless quality makes it ideal for creating gallery displays and hanging window treatments, ornaments, signs, and more.

    • Hanging cord for small to medium-sized artwork, frames, and decor, especially with picture rail hooks or gallery hanging systems

    • Measures 100 ft

    • Supports up to 20 lbs

    • Clear nylon

    Instructions

    With frame hangers

    1. Measure the distance between the frame’s hanging points.

    2. Cut a length of the cord 4-6” more than the distance measured.

    3. Take one end of the cord and thread about a two-inch length downward through one frame hanger. Criss-cross the parallel cords.

    4. Then thread the short end of the cord again up into the frame hanger, creating a loop.

    5. Hold the loop in place and thread the cord through it. Then pull it tight to lock it.

    6. Wrap the short end around the rest of the cord to secure it and cut off the excess.

    7. Pull the cord taut to make sure it won’t exceed the top edge of the frame. Then stretch the cord to the other side, leaving enough slack so its mounting point is halfway between the frame’s top edge and the frame hangers.

    8. Repeat steps 3-6 on the second frame hanger.

    With gallery system/rail hooks

    1. Secure a loop on one end of the cord.

    2. Hook the nylon cord to a picture rail hook.

    3. Attach adjustable hooks to the nylon cord.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q How do I install picture wire and what tools or hardware do I need?

Cut the length of the hanging wire about twice the width of your picture frame, thread it through each art hanger, secure both ends with a loop and twist, then pull them taut so that the wire sits just below the top edge of the frame. Trim off any excess. When hanging it on the wall, have a wall hook ready, along with screws and wall anchors if needed. Q Can I use hanging wire with other types of hanging hardware?

Yes, picture wire can work with other hardware besides our art hangers. Eye screws are a great alternative for attaching the wire at the back of the frame.

Q How much weight can picture hanging wire safely hold?

It depends on the type and thickness of the wire. Braided wire can hold up to 36 lbs, stainless steel wire up to 100 lbs, and vinyl-coated wire up to 60 lbs. Note that these are maximum weight ratings, so always check each product listing for the exact weight capacity before purchasing.

Q How do I choose the right picture wire for my frame?

Choosing the right picture hanging wire will depend on your picture frame's size and weight, so always check the wire's indicated weight rating. You'll also want to pay attention to the environment: indoor spaces are fine for most wires, but for humid or outdoor areas, we recommend going for stainless steel wire as it most resistant to rust and moisture.

Q What kinds of frames or decor work best with picture hanging wire?

Picture wires work best with frames that have a sturdy backing or reinforced corners. They're also great for canvas art, mirrors, and other medium to heavy decor pieces with D-rings or eye screws on the back.
