Zinc Drywall Anchor #6

S-SC-AZINC6X

Size: 10 Pack ($0.69 Each)

About the product

The zinc drywall anchor is a self-drilling wall anchor for drywall. It offers reliable support for wall hangers installed in medium to heavyweight applications.

  • Zinc wall anchor for medium to heavy-duty art and decor on ⅜” - ⅝” thick drywall board

  • Measures 1”

  • Compatible with #6 screws (not included)

Instructions

  1. Drill a pilot hole on the wall using a drill bit that’s slightly smaller than the diameter of the anchor. Be careful not to drill too deeply as this can cause wall damage. Tip: Use masking tape to mark the depth or the length of the screw you will install.

  2. Insert the anchor, then tap it lightly with a hammer until it is flush with the wall.

  3. With the anchor in place, screw in the item you want to hang. Note: Ensure you use the correct screw size for the anchor and avoid overtightening it as this can damage the anchor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q How do I choose the right picture hanging screws for my project?

The right screw depends on your wall type and hardware. Pan-head metal screws are used to install many of our picture hanging products like D-rings and strap hangers. Standalone wall screws like the Bear Claw and Wall Dog drive directly into drywall, plaster, or masonry to serve as hanging points. Wall anchors provide extra support in hollow walls. Check our guide: Everything You Need to Know About Picture Hanging Screws.

Q Can I use picture hanging screws on drywall without anchors?

Some screws like the Bear Claw and Wall Dog are designed to drive directly into drywall without anchors. For heavier items, we recommend using wall anchors like our Snap Skru drywall anchors, which provide additional support by spreading the load across a larger area of the wall.

Q How much weight can picture hanging screws safely hold?

Weight capacity varies by screw type and wall material. Standalone screws like the Wall Dog can support moderate loads in drywall. Adding wall anchors increases capacity significantly—our Snap Skru drywall anchors support up to 45 lbs. Check each product listing for the specific weight rating.

Q What wall types are these screws and anchors compatible with?

Our screw and anchor selection covers all wall types: drywall, plaster, brick, concrete, and wood. The Bear Claw and Wall Dog work on drywall, plaster, and masonry. Our concrete screws are designed for hard substrates. Check each product listing for wall compatibility.

Q What is the difference between a Bear Claw screw and a Wall Dog screw?

Both are standalone wall screws that drive directly into drywall without anchors. The Bear Claw has a wider head that acts as a built-in hook for hanging wire or D-ring hardware. The Wall Dog has a flat head design better suited for flush-mount applications. Both work on drywall, plaster, and masonry surfaces.
