S-SHIM-116

About the product

Plastic structural shim stacks are U-shaped shims used to align windows, doors, curtain walls, storefront tubing, and other architectural components. A convenient installation tab makes insertion and adjustment easy, and a variety of shim sizes makes them a versatile home maintenance solution. Shims are adjustable in thickness by stacking, and in length by just snapping them apart for your desired shape.

  • Plastic shims for aligning windows, doors, and other parts of the home

  • Measures 3 ½” long, 1/16” thick, and 1 ⅞” wide with a ⅝” slot

  • Includes sixteen (16) plastic shims

  • For interior use only

Instructions

  1. Identify the area where the shims will be used.

  2. Measure the width of the gap or distance that the surface needs to be adjusted.

  3. Select a plastic shim that is slightly larger than the gap or adjustment measured in step 2.

  4. Insert the shim into the gap or place it under the surface that needs adjusting.

  5. Use a hammer to gently tap the shim into place until it's flush with the surrounding surfaces.

  6. Break off any excess shims based on the depth of the gap.

  7. Repeat all steps as needed until the gap is filled or the surface is level.

  8. If necessary, use a caulking or sealant to seal the area around the shim and prevent drafts or water infiltration.

Note: Plastic shims are suitable for interior use only and should not be used in exterior or load-bearing applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q What is included in the hardware collection?

Our hardware collection contains installation screws, wall anchors, standalone wall screws, and picture hanging supplies that complement our hanging hardware. This includes pan-head screws for installing D-rings and strap hangers, wall screws like the Bear Claw and Wall Dog, drywall and concrete anchors, and tools like our bubble level.

Q How do I know which screws I need for my picture hanging hardware?

Check the product listing for the hanging hardware you're installing—it will specify the required screw size. Our most common sizes are #4, #6, and #8 pan-head screws. Many of our hanging products include screws, but replacements and bulk packs are available here.

Q Do I need wall anchors for picture hanging?

It depends on your wall type and the weight you're hanging. For drywall, lighter items can hang from a wall screw alone, but heavier items benefit from wall anchors that spread the load. For plaster, brick, and concrete, use the appropriate anchors for your surface. Our Snap Skru drywall anchors support up to 45 lbs.

Q Can I buy hardware in bulk?

Yes. Bulk packs are available for contractors, professional installers, and galleries who need large quantities of screws, anchors, and mounting hardware. Check individual product listings for available pack sizes and bulk pricing.

Q What wall types do these screws and anchors work with?

Our hardware selection covers all wall types: drywall, plaster, wood, brick, concrete, and masonry. The Bear Claw and Wall Dog drive directly into drywall and plaster. Concrete screws and masonry anchors handle hard substrates. Check each product listing for specific wall compatibility.
