Wide Picture Rail Hook - Polychromatic Brass Finish

S-HWR-2320X

Size: 10 Pack ($0.78 Each)

About the product

Picture rail  hooks are S-shaped hanging hardware designed to fit traditional wood picture rail molding (“Ogee" or "OG" molding) as part of a cable hanging system. Hanging pictures with picture rail  hooks  is damage-free with no drilling. Their elegance and great adjustability make them a staple in art galleries and museums, an appeal that also extends to enthusiasts who want to give their space the feeling of a real art gallery. The iridescent coating comes out in a unique color and pattern for every hook, making it the perfect complementary finish for dynamic gallery displays.

  • Wide brass hook for hanging art from picture rail molding
  • Measures 1 3/4" long, 1/2" wide, and 1/32” thick
  • Supports up to 25 lbs (per hook)
  • Steel with Polychromatic brass finish

Instructions

With a  gallery kit:

  1. Hang the rail hooks onto the picture rail molding.

  2. Insert a loop cord onto the rail hook.

  3. Attach picture hooks to the loop cables and adjust accordingly.

  4. Hang the frames.

Without a gallery kit:

  1. Attach picture wire to the bottom/smaller bend of the rail hook, each long enough to extend down from the picture rail molding to the top of the frame on the wall.

    • To attach wire to a picture rail hook, make 2-3 tight loops around the bottom bend about 4" down from one end of the wire. Wrap the wire around itself to form a tight, compact coil about 1” to 1 1/2" long just below the bend, then clip off any excess wire.

  2. Hang the rail hooks by the top/larger bend onto the picture rail molding, spaced apart roughly the same distance as the width of the frame to be hung. Let the loose ends of the wires dangle down. If necessary, hooks can be bent slightly for a better fit. Use two picture rail hooks per frame.

  3. Insert the wire through the picture hanger on the frame. Raise the frame on the wall to roughly the height desired. Note: Strap Hangers or D-Ring Hangers should be installed at the top corners of a frame, aligned vertically just below the top edge. Position the hangers down just far enough from the frame's top edge so they won’t be noticeable from the front when the frame is hung.

  4. Temporarily loop the picture wire around itself at the picture hanger to hold one side of the frame in position.

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other rail hook.

  6. Adjust the position or spacing of the hooks on the picture rail molding as necessary. The two wires should be parallel.

  7. Adjust the wire height as necessary by unlooping the wires on the picture hangers.

  8. Wrap the wire at each picture hanger securely, making tight, compact coils. Clip off any excess wire.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q How do I install your art hanging systems and what tools or hardware do I need?

We offer three types of gallery systems: Wall Track Kits, Picture Rail Gallery Kits, and Brass Gallery Rod Kits. The right one for you depends on whether or not your space has a picture rail molding. Each system utilizes picture rail hooks, frame hooks, and vertical cords or rods. If your wall doesn't already have a picture rail molding, you'll just need a drill or a screwdriver and a few screws (included in the kits!) to install the track. For a detailed walkthrough, check out our complete guide: Everything You Need to Know About Gallery Systems

Q Can I remove these gallery hanging systems without damaging my walls?

For OGEE picture rail hanging systems, there will be no wall damage at all as it will only involve an existing picture rail. For systems that require installing a track or molding, some drilling is needed, which means a few small holes. Using wall anchors will mitigate the damage, and a quick spackle touch-up afterward will cover them right up.

Q How much weight can each art hanging system safely hold?

Each part of a gallery system has different weight ratings: some are made to hold a single frame (picture hooks), support multiple frames (rods and cords), and some carry the weight of the entire setup (wall tracks and moldings). Wall tracks hold up to 154 lbs, steel and nylon cords from 11-28 lbs, and adjustable frame hooks up to 44 lbs. Picture rail hooks can handle up to 25 lbs. The Brass Gallery Rod Kit's molding supports up to 70 lbs and its monkey hangers up to 25 lbs. Tip: Check each product's listing for its specific weight rating to make sure your display hangs safely.

Q What wall types are the included mounting hardware compatible with?

For gallery hanging systems that require wall tracks or installable moldings, compatibility will depend on the screws. The ones included in our kits work with wood, drywall, plaster, and concrete.

Q What kinds of frames or decor work best with art hanging systems?

The best frames for gallery systems are those that match the weight ratings of each component. Each frame should stay within the capacity of its individual hook, the combined frames on a single rod or cable should fit that rod or cable's rating, and the total weight across all rods or cables should stay within the wall track or molding's limit.
